• Bath Towels or Bath Sheets: What’s the Difference?

    by Lifeboat Admin ,

People have been using bath towels to dry off after baths and showers for hundreds of years. Over time, the options have expanded to include a wide variety of styles, materials and colours. Typically, bath towels are sold as part of a set that also includes hand towels and wash cloths. However, many people also choose to purchase bath sheets, in styles that complement the bath towel set. So what’s the difference between a bath towel and a bath sheet?

    All about Bath Towels

Bath towels average in size from 68cm x 132cm to 70cm x 134cm. Whether purchased separately or as part of a set, they usually cost less than bath sheets, because they are not as large. In addition to using towels to dry off, many people wrap them around their hair after a shower. Another advantage to buying a bath towel is that it is the perfect size for drying a child.

    How to hang:

Towels hang best on a bar or rack when double folded or tri-folded. When stacking in the linen closet or on a shelf:

    - Lay towel front side down in front of you.
    - Fold it into thirds lengthwise.
    - Then fold it almost in half, leaving a little extra on the end.
    - Fold it one more time and you will get a perfectly flush edge.

    All about Bath Sheets

Bath sheets tend to be larger and more absorbent than bath towels. They range from 80cm x 150cm to 100cm x 170cm. The extra length makes them great for drying off after a shower or bath. Men like to wrap bath sheets around their bodies when shaving and women like to do it when blow drying their hair.

    How to hang:

Although it is possible to hang bath sheets on a towel bar or rack, they hang best when placed on a hook.

    - For sanitary purposes, it is a good idea to give a hook to each family member so that towels are not mixed up.
    - Always hang to dry instead of leaving on floor.
    - Don’t put them in the hamper unless they are completely dry to prevent mould and mildew.

How to clean bath towels and bath sheets:

Nobody wants to use a dirty bath towel or bath sheet. Wash your bath towels and bath sheets regularly to keep them feeling soft and smelling clean. Towels look very fluffy when you first buy them because of a special fabric softener applied by manufacturers. Unfortunately, fabric softener often prevents towels from absorbing properly. Therefore, it is necessary to clean new towels before using them.

Separate towels into colours and whites to keep colours from running. Don’t use too much laundry detergent (1/2 the amount you usually use it best!) to ensure towels stay soft. Never add fabric softener to the washer or dryer because it will prevent your towels from absorbing water. Set the dryer to a cool setting to protect your towels’ fibres.
